Community Planning
& Design Workshop (CPDW)
The Partnership for Community Design (PCD) is planning a Community Planning and
Design Workshop (CPDW) which is intended to provide citizens a solid
understanding of city planning – a serious business that is full of conflicts
and great opportunities. CPDW will train members of City Council, boards,
commissions, neighborhood leaders and active citizens in creating positive
solutions to help shape a distinctive Colorado Springs community.
The approach is simple. CPDW presents a group of citizen leaders with a
framework of planning within a Colorado Springs context. CPDW goals are to
improve knowledge of the legal aspects of planning, to reduce potential
land-use conflicts through understanding of how the planning process works, and
to develop dialogue between citizens and the City regarding Colorado Springs’
future.
2010 FALL SCHEDULE
The CPDW sessions begin fall 2010. Each three hour
session will be held weekly for six weeks. Each session will expose
participants to issues related to the Colorado Springs Comprehensive Plan,
zoning, and subdivision concepts, effective public meetings, and design related
issues. The emphasis throughout will be to help participants understand how
they can positively affect Colorado Springs’ future. An optional Saturday
session may be scheduled to provide an opportunity for greater analysis and
application of knowledge learned on a hypothetical development site.
CCPDW will not advocate particular solutions. Instead, it is meant to provide an
understanding of the planning, design and development process with an
opportunity for active dialogue. It is important that each class member
understands the time commitment involved in the Community Planning and Design
Workshop. Applications for the PCD Community Planning and Design Workshop must
be received by TBD.
